Happy 40 Years Exchange

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.
B.B. King

In celebration of Exchange magazine's 40th birthday (or maybe anniversary?), many of the members of the Exchange Leadership Initiative have been sending good wishes. Here are two more wonderful messages received:

From Dr. Gloria Julius, Vice President of Education and Professional Development at Primrose Schools

"Exchange Magazine has always been an invaluable resource for Primrose Schools because it provides exactly what its name suggests – a forum to connect with fellow early education professionals worldwide who share a passion for creating the best educational experiences for children and teachers. For 40 years, this wonderful publication has facilitated the sharing of countless trends and insights, best practices and inspiration. Exchange has already established a tremendous legacy through the global network of ideas and industry leaders it has helped cultivate, and I look forward to seeing what the next 40 years will bring! Happy Anniversary, Exchange!"

From Fran Simon, Chief Engagement Officer at Engagement Strategies, LLC.

I remember one of the first times Child Care Information Exchange inspired me. It was very early in my career when I was a child care administrator for a multi-site child care organization. I recall sitting at my desk in one of our run-down, but charming centers in an office I shared with the Executive Director. I had just read an article about Jim Greenman and his work during the founding days at Bright Horizons, and I was hopped up with excitement about what I had read. I excitedly declared that we should aspire to the same practices described in the article. That moment of inspiration was the first of the hundreds of “ah-ha” moments I experienced from reading Exchange. From that point on, Exchange connected me to thought-leaders and innovative ideas throughout my career.

Once, I read an article about educational technology by Tim Walker who formerly worked at McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership. I was so inspired, I boldly picked up the phone and called Tim (who I did not know) and proposed we collaborate on my first article for Exchange.  In fact, it was my first article ever! Soon after it was published, Chip Donohue from Erikson Institute contacted me about collaborating on another article. From that point Chip and I collaborated on many articles and I published chapters in his books. Exchange is responsible for launching and nurturing many paths in my career, as well as simply offering me new perspectives and information.

I am grateful for the leadership Bonnie and Roger provided, and their influence on my development as a proud early educator. Thank you, Exchange. Congratulations on a momentous occasion. Here’s to another 40 years of innovation.
