Exchange Center Makeover
May 13, 2011
Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.
-O. Fred Donaldson, Ph.D., American play researcher
Over the past year, Exchange has been coordinating a makeover of Jewel's Learning Center and Early Childhood Program in Houston, Texas.  Making the project possible was the extreme generosity in time and resources of our project partners: Community Playthings, Nature Explore, Lakeshore Learning Materials, Collaborative for Children, Innovations in Early Childhood Education, and Benjamin Moore Paints.  With center director Charlotte Watts leading the way, these partners helped build an even stronger educational foundation for the children of Jewel's Learning Center, providing new learning materials, quality interior furnishings, a fresh look, and a nature-based outdoor playscape.  To learn more about the Center Makeover, go to www.childcareexchange.com/makeover.

Children deserve to spend their days in well-designed environments that support their needs and stimulate their learning. Adults who spend their days teaching and caring for young children deserve environments that maximize their skills.

Caring Spaces, Learning Places is a book of ideas, observations, problems, solutions, examples, resources, photographs, and poetry. Here you will find the best of current thinking about children's environments — 360 pages to challenge you, stimulate you, inspire you.
