Security Does Not Exist
May 27, 2016
Following the thread of curiosity is where the fun lies. Disciplines blur. There are no labels. There’s only play.
-Rachelle Doorley, Maker and Educator

Here are some inspirational quotes from Helen Keller:

"Security is mostly a superstition.  It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.  Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.  Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.  Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

"The only thing worse than being blind is having sight, but no vision."

Thanks for the idea to Dana Wiser

Learning From the Bumps in the Road

As you read about the bumps the authors have encountered throughout their careers, you will be encouraged and challenged to think more deeply and openly about your own practices and philosophies. You will gain a renewed sense of purpose as you help children reach their full potential. And, you will discover — as the authors did — that every bump in the road is an invitation to grow and opportunity to learn.

Thanks, Dana & EED, for these quotable quotations. The one about sight and vision is so true; it reminds me of a quote from Jeanne-Claude of the Christo & Jeanne-Claude art team: She said, "Artists never retire; they die." That, in turn, reminds me of how Lawrence Cremin, Teacher College, Columbia University president, education historian and Pulitzer Prize winner, died. He bought his morning coffee and The New York Times and sat down at his desk. He died shortly thereafter of a heart attack. That's my idea of dying: to be doing something you love...and out!
