Getting Unstuck
November 26, 2009
It’s the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter.
-Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992), Actor
"Many people find themselves getting stuck in unrewarding relationships, financial situations, jobs, and habits," observes Jessica Seck Marquis in her article, "Diagnosing Stuckness" in Going Bonkers (December 2009; gbonkers.com) — yes, that's really the name of the magazine.  Here are a few of her suggestions for getting unstuck...
  • Set a goal.  Make it SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) so you can achieve it.
  • Shimmy and shake.  Creativity flows when the body moves, so initiate some exercise that gets you up, out, and invigorated.
  • Dream.  Fear keeps people from thinking that there is something better out there.  Banish that fear, and let yourself imagine the possibilities you have been keeping at a distance.  Envision what it would be like not to be shackled to your current obligations and habits.

Now you can add pizzazz to your staff training by subscribing to Videatives Streaming Service, giving you access to over 160 video clips of real-life scenes in real classrooms.  By using Videatives Streaming Service, you can make general principles of child development and early education come to life — turn ordinary moments into rich learning experiences. Students and staff members will learn to "see what children know," not by studying text, but through observing and assessing real incidents in real early childhood settings.

Real life videos are good for children to watch, but when do you make the decision to play one for younger children?
