Day Without Child Care
June 13, 2012
If you remove stone after stone, even a mountain will be leveled.
-Indian proverb
What would happen if child care were not available?  This was the question the Local Child Care Planning Council of Humboldt (CA) County explored with their video "A Day Without ChildCare".  This well-produced video presents some very serious issues about the importance of child care services in a humorous context.  Often our advocacy messages are so very serious.  This takes a different approach to get the message across.  Check this one out and then come back to ExchangeEveryDay, scroll down, and tell us what you think.

This video is so important and gets the message across so anyone can understand how important early childhood education and child care are to the well-being of our nation. This should be shown on national T.V. and to our political candidates!

An excellent video that expresses its message on quality early childhood education without being "preachy". I would love to see communities across the US do something similar.

The video was humerous, but it is something to consider that and will happen if there was no childcare. It not only effects the childcare staff, it effects the community. To see this actually happen would be a nightmare. The State and Federal should really consider not cutting budget for childcare because most parents can't afford it without help. I lose children when parents subsidize get terminated due to budget cuts where they are placed on months of waiting lists just to wait in line to receive funding. Sometimes im forced to give discounts because fees are not affordable while parents wait for funding and most of the time child care information services do not contact clients whene funding is available.

In 11 minutes, the messages about the importance of quality Early Learning & Education, aka childcare, are pinpointed. While done in a humerous way, it is not funny. It is a key factor in economics, education, and human capital. While all the "problems" of the world or the US would not be solved if we have high quality, affordable, and aligned early learning & education, it would make a significant difference in how money is spent and priorities set.

I really great advocacy tool.
