Take a Seat at the Table
Wouldn’t it be amazing to create a place where people you have met, or have yet to meet, would gather? In my imagination, there would be steaming cups of coffee in assorted, slightly worn mugs. There would be flowers, handmade tablecloths from various eras and countries, books and magazines to share, a box of blocks nearby for children to enjoy. There would be a place to leave messages and create a history of conversations. And there would be cookies—chocolate chip. Wouldn’t you want to spend time in such a place? This is what I imagined would be an enjoyable way to spend my life, if I weren’t living it as I am. And then technology stepped up to make my fantasy come true. World Forum has built a place; well, not an actual physical space, but a place nonetheless, and we have named it “Bonnie’s Global Café.” Although it does not have actual chairs, you can pull up your own and sip your cup of coffee as you join in the conversations and sharing that create online the life of a community.
