During times of crisis, it is easy to get caught up in worries about the future, spinning various scenarios focused on “what ifs.” In my work at First Children’s Finance, I have been having so many conversations with child care businesses facing great uncertainty about their futures. My advice continues to be, “Focus on one day at a time; focus on the reality of actual numbers.”

In a time where everything feels out of control, I help people figure out what they can control. It is important to make decisions based on the facts that are available in the present moment. Ask, “What do I know for sure right now?”

Courageous leaders remain calm and keep themselves from getting wrapped up in drama. They ground themselves in what is real in the current moment. They make step-by-step decisions as new information becomes available.
