The parts that are about the need for quality ECE are well done.
However, I was dismayed to see that children are still being taught that Florida was "discovered" by Ponce de Leon. A lively campus discussion about Columbus/Discoverer's Day is fresh in my mind. It feels like such a dismissal of the indigenous people of Florida who have been there for many, many generations. I know it's unintentional, but I really thought that by now, we would all be in a different frame of thinking.
I hope that we can move away from perpetuating the thought that a place only exists or is significant once a European has been there.

It amazes me that what seem like common sense is so easily put aside. Better education, beginning at birth, would significantly lower crime, poverty, and so many of the other social issues yet government officials just don't seem to make the correlation.
