Petition to the United Nations
October 4, 2013
Give children the time and the space to work it out.
-Karen Stephens

The United Nations is developing a framework for its work beyond 2015.  At a Global Leaders meeting I recently attended in Abu Dhabi, I observed early signs that early childhood development is not an important part of this work plan.

Tessa Jowell, a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom, is promoting a petition to change this.  She observes, "If the new post-2015 development framework is truly to be a new global covenant developed in partnership with developing and middle-income countries, we need to prove that we are doing all we can at home to tackle inequality, poverty, and lack of opportunity.  But now we need your support... to ensure that early childhood development is not just a side issue — it should be right at the heart of civil society, our fight for social justice and economic development.  We cannot afford to squander the talents of so many of the world's people."

Read about and sign the petition and share it with your colleagues.
