Roger's Top Books of 2004
December 31, 2004

"We have more ability than will power, and it is often an excuse to ourselves that we imagine that things are impossible." - La Rochefoucauld in Maxims

Roger's Top Books of 2004

Every once in a while we will accidentally get a copy of a note sent from an ExchangeEveryDay reader as they pass on the day's story to friend. One of my favorites closed her note by saying, "You should subscribe to ExchangeEveryDay. Often the messages are pretty lame, but usually they will help you very much." Well, today may be one of the "lame" ones for many of you. To close the year I am sharing my top 12 non-work books of 2004. As many of you know I am a mystery fan, so I will mark (*) the mysteries on this list so you can avoid or zero in on them depending on your predilections.

Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
Boris Akunin, The Winter Queen *
Isaac Adamson, Hokkaido Popsicle *
Manuel Ramos, The Ballad of Rocky Ruiz *
Charley Rosen, The House of the Moses All-Stars
Safran Foer, Everything is Illuminated
Michael Chabron,  The Mysteries of Pittsburgh
Asne Seierstand,  The Bookseller of Kabul
John Burdett, Bangkok 8 *
Erik Larson, The Devil in the White City *
Michael Dibbin, Dirty Tricks *
